Your Ultimate Aftercare Guide
Congrats on your new extensions! To make sure they stay looking fab, here’s your go-to guide on how to care for them. Keep this handy and your hair will thank you!
1. Washing Your Hair
How often?
Washing your hair too much can weaken the extensions, so aim to wash it 1-2 times a week.
You can however wash your hair just at the parting and hairline if needed as a quick refresh.
Shampoo:
Go for a sulphate free shampoo (your hair and extensions will love it!). Avoid anything too heavy on the proteins or silicones—those can mess with your beads.
Conditioner:
Only apply conditioner to the ends of your hair—avoid the roots where the beads are. Keep it light to prevent the beads from slipping!
How to wash:
Gently massage your scalp and hair—don’t scrub or tangle them!
2. Drying Your Hair
Blow Drying:
Use a medium heat setting if you’re blow-drying. High heat can damage both your extensions and natural hair.
Air Drying:
You should dry your roots as a minimum then you can let the rest air dry but….. just make sure it’s completely dry before bed to avoid tangles.
3. Brushing Your Hair
The Right Brush:
Get yourself a brush made for extensions. It’s a game changer!
How to brush:
Start from the ends and work your way up to the roots. Always be gentle around the beads to avoid pulling.
4. Styling with Heat
Heat tools:
If you want to curl, straighten, or style your hair, keep the heat under 180°C (365°F). And always use a heat protection before!
5. Sleeping
Before bed:
Brush your hair out before you sleep to avoid tangles.
Wear your hair in a loose ponytail or braid will avoid tangles the best
Pillow:
Consider switching to a silk or satin pillowcase—it helps reduce friction and keeps your hair smooth.
Don’t sleep with wet hair extensions
6. Swimming
Chlorine:
Try to avoid chlorinated pools—they can be harsh on your extensions.
Saltwater:
If you’re hitting the beach, rinse your hair after swimming and throw in some leave-in conditioner to keep it hydrated.
7. Maintenance Appointments
How often?
Make sure to book a maintenance appointment every 6-10 weeks to keep your extensions looking their best and your natural hair healthy.
8. Aftercare Products
Shampoo & Conditioner:
Our recommended products are made for extensions! They’ll help keep your hair nourished and looking great.
Leave-In Treatment:
Use the recommended leave-in conditioner or serum on the ends to keep things hydrated and shiny.
9. Avoiding Damage
Chemical Treatments:
Don’t use any harsh chemical treatments (like perms or relaxers) on your extensions. They’re delicate!
Tight Hairstyles:
Keep hairstyles loose and natural—tight ponytails or braids can stress out your extensions.
